Whether a student is looking for a grade boost or simply has an above-and-beyond passion for music, there are multiple opportunities for extra credit through the grading period.
Any selected assignment will be applied to the grading period during which it was completed.
Students are allowed a maximum of 3 extra credit projects per grading period
Private Lesson Verification (extra X2 grade of 15)
If you take private lessons on your band instrument have your parents and instructor sign the form at the bottom of this page and pass it in to the Director. Extra credit will be applied to the grade during which lessons are taken. This may be used once per grading period.
Concert Review (extra X2 grade of 10)
Attend or participate in a concert of your choosing and discuss it critically in a 2-paragraph essay. If you were involved, explain your role and its obligations. Consider what you liked and/or didn’t like about the music giving specific examples to support your opinions and display your critical musical analysis.
Composer Biography (extra X2 grade of 10)
Select and research a composer and write a 1-page biography about him/her. The biography must show original work and not merely be pasted from a secondary source. A cover page and works cited page are required.
Dates born/died, Country/state of origin, style of music most associated with, pieces, songs, albums most known for. Unique facts about them, their music, or their legacy.
Original Notated Composition Project (extra X2 grade of 15)
Write an original musical composition or arrangement of at least 32 (16 measures for 6th grade) measures for a solo instrument or group of instruments. Piece should be written out on music paper or a notation program (Sibelius or Noteflight) and clearly illustrate each part. Transpositions are not required but the piece should include any desired dynamics, tempo, and articulations.

MixCraft Composition Project (extra grade of 10)
Create an original musical composition of at least 32 meaures using MixCraft software in the Music Tech lab. Piece must have at least 7 tracks (5 Audio and 2 Virtual) and show creative use and style of the equipment,

Song Analysis Project (extra X2 grade of 15)
Select a song of any style (at least 2 minutes long) and prepare a 2-page (1-page for 6th grade) written analysis of it.
Topics to write about can include but do not have to be limited to:
style, tempo, instrumentation, time period, composers, performers, chart performance, songs/bands that inspired this song, songs/bands this song has inspired, lyrics to the song
A detailed sectional analysis must be completed: what instruments play in each part and a general description of each section:
An example of a sectional breakup could be: Intro / Verse / Chorus / Verse / Instrumental / Chorus / Outro
